<< My 87 Westy came with a hitch on it. I've never intended to tow anything with it, but I recently purchased a 16ft Hobie Cat that I'd like to take along with me this weekend. The boat and the trailer weigh about 550lbs.

Would like to hear some opinions on towing with the wasserboxer. >> Dane,

You won't know it's back there - unless you have to make a 'panic stop' or are towing through the mountains. I've towed a pop-up camper that weighs approx. what your Hobie does with my '87 and the A/C on. The only time it was noticable was when towing in the mountains (3rd gear city). It's really no problem as long as you select an appropriate gear to keep your rpm's around 3500 - 4000. The real key here is DO NOT LUG THIS ENGINE - if you do it will not be kind to you!
