Try to contact someone in England or on the continent. I had to have rear fog lamps on my US version 85 GL when I lived in England. I picked up the switch off the shelf at the local VW dealer and wired my rear lenses so that the original rear fog lights worked. The switch is two position: rear and front and rear.
