Machining takes about 4 hours, mostly setup work. You'll need a set of metric tooling, drills/taps/reamers to get it perfect, but a good machinist could certainly work it with USA units if some planning/conversions were done. You need to reset the lateral depth of the ring via the bearing carriers, not as hard as resetting the pinion meshing depth! >>

Thanks alot Tim for the great info, I saved the info for future use. If you come across another front diff, I'd be interested in having you do the conversion for me, since you know what you are doing with the machining. I can handle the rest. My darn VC isn't working very well at all any more. I'm going to call German transaxle pretty soon to get a price on a new VC. I'll do the install myself at work. Maybe I'll send my unit to you for the lockable diff conversion. You should seriously consider doing the conversion as a side job. I'm sure a lot of syncro owners on the list would be interested. Todd Hill is making good money now. He started out in his garage, ( still is in his garage). Anyway thanks again. Keep blowing the Fords and Toyota's away. Michael 87 syncro 87 quattro PS. How long does it take for your rear locking diff to unlock. While driving straight, sometimes mine take forever. Most of the time I have to pull the knob out a couple of times and then back in again to get it to unlock.
