Subject: Gear Problems?? 87GL rebuild update
Comments: To: vanagon@VANAGON.com

Hey all-

I've gotten my engine back in, rotated the distributor 180º and got the thing to start...Runs good from what I can tell. Still need to adjust the timing and idle and such...

OK...new problem...

I put in a new clutch, disc, pilot bearing, release bearing along with the engine rebuild.

Tonight I was going to get it off the ramps and it is acting strange. Clutch feels OK, seems like it goes from nuetral into gear. But it seems as though only the passenger side wheel turns....(?)

In fact, when I tried to get it off the ramp, it shot out the ramp on that side but the driver side wheel seems stuck...(?)

Right now its on one ramp...And I can't get the wheel to turn either in nuetral or first gear. I've tried turning the engine by hand to no avail.

What did I do wrong?? I am suspecting something with the 'alignment of the shaft'....but I don't know. This 87GL (2-wheel dr) had no drive problems before. Am I going to have to pull out the engine to correct this??? (i am getting used to this!) How do I make sure this doesn't happen again if this is the case?

Should I spent my time building a viking funeral boat for this baby, or can I still save her? Thanks for any a all responses!
