Subject: Looking at a 84..Advice Needed

Tuesday nite, my son's 78 bus blew a fuel line...caught fire and was toasted to a shell. Tomorrow I'm going to look at an 84 GL as a replacement. The current owner says it has 154k miles on it and he has recently replaced the heads and gaskets. How many miles do you folks think a vanagon can go before we have to replace the engine? He's going to be driving it for at least 3 to 4 round trips to Rochester NY, a distance of 420 miles each way....

We have 4 almost new Michelin 185 Reinforced x 14s from the 78....will they fit the 84?

Any tips on what to look for when I go and see this van tomorrow?

Was an 84 a good year? Any quirks or problems with 84s?

This will be the first T3 we've owned.....we still have the EuroVan...we just toasted a bay window...and I've had tons of splitties back in the 70s....

Thanks in advance.

Ric
