Wow... I'm thinking now that I'd be best served waiting until I NEED to replace the tranny before entertaining this switch. Thanks to all for the feedback (and shock value).

Several thousand dollars at least. Every once in a while new or used South African or European 5 speeds show up over here. They are expensive, and I think the front mount, and possibly the shift linkage is different. Porsche 5 speeds also can be done, but you'd have to fabricate a mount, and deal with linkage and other problems. Used or new, Porsche transmissions aren't cheap.
