I believe we are on the same page here, but I fail to see the point you think Coyote (and I) missed. Yes, we all want people to be confident and self assured, but not because they have the power, brute force or with a weapon, to overcome those who excel. Violence is never the right answer. We would never want the Marias of the world to be beaten up because they are brighter, less attractive, honest, work harder, female, gay, or have a "good heart". Too many children (and adults) think that if they cannot match the achievements of others, it's ok to haul out a gun and even the playing field, or form a gang to outnumber those who outperform. Being different shouldn't make you a target.

Perhaps a BS to the effect that "my child worked his/her butt off in school and we are damn proud of Him/Her."

Vanagon owners excel, not by acceleration, but by perseverance.
