I have an 85 Westy,67k,overall great shape. A little while back, the cat. coverter had a meltdown and plugged up. I got the van home and went to work. When warm, the engine idles rough, as if the choke was stuck if it had one. When I unplugged the temp. sensor in the thermostat housing, the idle evens right out and all is well. I replaced the sensor, but all is still the same. You cannot adjust the idle speed, if you out the bypass screw, it idles worse, but this condition is fixed also when the sensor is unplugged. I replaced the O2 sensor and the cat, checked the timing, etc. but cannot seem to find someone who knows if unplugging that sensor makes it rich or leaner.I am afraid to drive it lest my new coverter dies as it surely will. I also cleaned and checked the ground wires on the engine.HELP!!!!!!! Bill Atkins 85 GL 75 Norton
