Subject: Jacking a Syncro/thermostat housing
Comments: To: vanagon@vanagon.com

I was wondering if it would be safe to jack the Syncro on the engine subframe or crossmember using a floorjack? The reason I wanna do this is that the stock jack is not lifting the car high enough to get good working space underneath. I am also wondering if the thermostat housing can leak if I only use three bolts to hold it together. The bolt nearest the gearbox broke, and it is tight to get the lower housing off. (that's why I wanna jack it higher) I quickly found out that I need to get the lower housing off to get the remains of the bolt off. As always, any suggestions, good or bad, is welcome. Yes, I know I get good access to the lower housing by removing the engine, but I feel it would be a bit too much work.
