Perl,

The flaps thermostats were costing about $8. The dealer one was $33 and change.

Hey, Joe I am putting in a new thermostat in my 2,1 today. My car was not running cooler than normal, it just took forever to heat up.Both old and new thermos are VW units. The old is manufactured by Wahler while the new is manufactured by Behr-Thomson. The old thermo had a 87C degree rating, the new was unmarked. I checked with a local FLAPS, their thermostat was actually more expensive than the VW-dealer.

PerL 88 Syncro
