<FontFamily><param>Times New Roman</param><bigger>Hi Andreas, Just as another data point, My 87 Vanagon Syncro has about 175,000 miles on it and the trans is just beginning to whine a bit. I think that the expected lifetime seems to be between 150,000 and 250,000 till it needs a rebuild. You can probably get more miles if you don't regularly load up the van heavily or if you change the trans oil a bit more frequently. (I have never changed mine, so I guess I deserve to be near the bottom of the life expectancy). Anyone know of a good transmission rebuilder in the New England area?

<smaller>Hi all, I read with some concern that when my gearbox gets to about 140k it WILL blow. My 87 Syncro has 188k km on its original transmission, Id be interested to hear from anyone who has got significantly more mileage out of their gearboxes, then maybe I can sleep again at night!
