Apologies in advance for the lack of Vanagon content, but there a number of list members with Jettas that may be able to help me with an annoying problem. Please respond privately.

My newly acquired 1990 Jetta with the 1.8l gasoline engine has a very annoying vibration at idle. The vibration is only at idle--as soon as you move the RPMs up a bit the vibration goes away. The engine has been recently tuned and runs great otherwise. A local garage suggested replacing the rear motor mount which failed to correct the problem. There are two other motor mounts that could be replaced but the mechanic didn't seem to think that would fix the problem. He seems stumped and I don't know whether to spend a few hundred $ to replace the other two mounts or what. Any advice appreciated.
