I have been looking into this too and have a few questions which I think some list members will be interested too: 1. How long have you had the K&N in? 2. Did you buy the cleaners and the oiling kit? Have you used it yet? How much of a pain is it to clean and re-oil? 3. One of the problem I woried about which I first considered using this filter is that if the oil on the element breaks off the surface of the element and become air borne duing use, the oil particulates will end up depositing in the little thermistor wire inside the air flow meter. This may affect the operations of the temperature sensing and thus the ECU. From the construction of the filter and the way oil is put on, is this a possibility? Thanks for sharing your experience. I noticed about a 1-2mpg gain and a little more gusto around town. I used to commute across the Coronado bridge (of Simon&Simon fame) in San Diego. Before it was a 3rd gear @40mph trip over. Now if I kept the momentum up it was a 4th @ 55. Seem to give a bit more torque. My TDI is the next canidate once the free one from VW is done. Have had them on various other equipment like 2 and 4 stroke dirt bikes and again less fuel more power. Jason Yasment '84 Westy 126,500 '98 Jetta TDI 20,500 |
