Todd, My never ending trans. problems continues. Can you answere, Please? My 4 speed is marked DU. Is there a diference in the number of teeth on 2nd gear of this trans and other 4 speeds? Mine is a 1984 gas burner. Here is why. I took my van to a fella who used to work at one of the local VW dealers, and has a reputation for rebuilding transmissions. He is out of work, has many, many trans. parts around and said he would rebuild mine for $ 500.00. Ok I dug into the deepest pockets I have and said ok. I helped him take the tranny out, and take it apart. Today he was supose to rebuild it with some new syncro's and a 2nd and 1st gear that he had that were good. But today he calls and tells me that the number of teeth my gear has is diferent than the number of teeth his gear has, so I have to buy a new gear and the price is now almost 900.00. I'm dead in the water. I don't have the extra money, my tranny is in pieces, in a box. Any advice at all?
