Andrew; I would be surprised(but happy) if replacing just those parts will do the trick. The shims spin against the flywheel bearing in the case. That bearing is made of a softer material than the flywheel. Is the bearing chewed up also? That surface must be flat and perpendicular to the crank axis. Have you cut open the oil filter?
