Subject: mud flaps revisited

Hi All,

I've noticed a tendency for folks to lose all sense of reality when confronted with a chance to buy OEM stuff cheaper than the dealer wants. "hey what a bargoon! gotta have it." My Syncro has mud flaps on it, yup my girl's gott'em, great big muthas.

They are from a FLAPS, the biggest ones I could find, almost Mack truck sized $18Cdn for the pair, with 2 little red reflectors at the bottom even. So big that I cut them in half then used stainless steel screws/washers drilled through the bottom of the front jack support area. They are as wide as the wheel well and drop down 9" below and 1" outside the body and they work fine. One leftover was used for another flap right by the propane tank but even lower down, to keep the valves clear.

So I ask you, why pay $118 or anything even close to that to do a simple task like stopping spray? Reminds me of an old posting to the list in which a member didn't want to pay the $200 for the rear Westy carpeting and was looking for it used. Go buy a $10 remnant in top grade carpet and cut it to fit fer crissake, and throw it out when it's dirty.

Save your bucks for cheap OEM stuff that MUST be VW, otherwise make do, ya bunch of prima donnas!

just a grumpy old geezer, Tim
