I have used a forkmount bolted (soundly) to a 2x4 that functioned as a 'bar'
for a rack using "quickrack" feet on my beetle for about 3 years, with out a
problem.  It gives the car a rustic feel and hauls the canoe, too.   It's
feet, like the Thule, are too short to go over the top when bolted to the
gutters.  But I remember there might be an extender available for the
Quickrack.  Any one know?
