A1 (Rabbit / Golf MK1) convertables - no. A3 (Golf MK III) convertables -yes.

Personally I would not install a diesel in a Cabriolet. Golfs have the problem of getting diesel smoke all over the back of them and I would imagine that you will find black soot all over the interior of your Cabriolet with the top down.

If you do decide to do it it is a plug and play swap as far as bolting the motor in. You will have to modify your fuel lines but that is about it.
