Thanks for all the advice.  I bought Mobil1 15w50 for my waterboxer.  I live right on the VT,MA and NY borders.  I grew up in this area and remember it getting really cold.  The van won't be garaged.  I'm thinking that it may be a really good idea to install a block heater.  It's not going to be driven every day, but there when I really need to.  I also bought 80w90 gl-3,gl-4,gl-5 for the gearbox.  Next weekend I'm changing the clutch slave cylinder, master was done 12k ago.
