Subject: New motor in and running!!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hello everyone, I finally finished installing my new motor. After setting the plug gap and timing the engine I took it out for a test run. At first it ran well, but after a few minutes, It started running rough. The engine was producing quite a bit of black smoke. This is a new problem. Prior to the new engine, I had no problem with mixture. After refueling the van, I started it and it ran perfect. At least for about 5 minutes. Then the rich running condition returned. I have tried disconnecting the O2 sensor. It has the effect of making it run even richer. The problem exists at all engine speeds and loads. I tried to set the air/fuel mixture as per Bentley. The original settings appear to be the best. Moving the screws only makes the problem worse or has no effect. I have found that if the ignition is switched of and then restarted. The problem goes away for about 5 minutes. This leads me to believe it is a sensor problem and not an injector or regulator problem. I tried to search the archives, but the search function would not work. I searched manually and didn't find a solution. I would appreciate any help the list might offer. It really felt good to drive my van again. Colin Moran '86 Syncro GL Beebe AR The "Bronze Brick" Alive and well
