When I bought my 84 GL the middle seat was so easy to remove that it never occurred to me that it was improperlt installed. The PO simply set it down on top of the mounting rails and ran the bolts (or possibly longer bolts) in tight. I have been using it this way for over 85,000 miles and it works great. When I want to remove it, I just pull 4 bolts and lift it out. Opposite to replace.
