You are right.. Hwy 1 is one of the most beautiful coastal route in North America but whoever gave the advise to Katherine must be either prone to car sick or acrophobic... I made the mistake of taking kids and a dog on the route none of whom did well on windy roads. And the road has no shoulders to pull over ..so we made do with grocery bags .. a car sick retriever is a very ugly sight.. it was an awful and awesome experience!! We made the trip again this last summer with the kids grown up a bit and sans dog and it was a wonderful drive!
