The other day as I was driving to work my fuel pump (which had always been
silent as a mouse) suddenly began making a horrendous loud buzzing sound!

I dumped a bottle of fuel line conditioner/cleaner in the tank theorizing that
it was some sort of blockage or low flow to the pump causing cavitation and/or
bubbles to form. No effect noted. I was singing the bank account blues
thinking about spending the exhorbitant $ for a new fuel pump.

Tonight I crawled under there and discovered that the entire pump was encased
in a block of clear ice (just like the iceman)! It has been extremely cold
here in Oregon (1 to 6 degrees at night) with lots of snow and slush during my
AM ride.

I carefully worked some of the ice off and released the pump from its icy
tomb. The buzzing immediately stopped...a feeling of great relief to say the
least.

Something for those of you in Northern Climes to think about next time you
hear a dreaded buzzing/whine from your pump.
