True. In fact, there are quite a few porsche 6 vanagons and regular vans running around. I beleive Willam Kennedy has a bunch of pictures of his conversion. As conversions go, this isn't even a very hard one, requiring much less fabrication (although it's not trivial) than say, swapping in a V-6 chevy.

The main thing that would stop me from using a porsche engine in my vanagon, is that mine's a waterboxer, and that porsche engines can be quite pricey, especially since you need to use a relatively late model porsche to get the fuel injection, which will fit under a modified deck lid, vs a carbed engine, which won't.
