This reminds me of 3 mile long drag races I used to have in my '72 Westy
running
flat out against my friends '74 MB 190D. I was always a very exciting
race...I
could win up until 3rd gear or so, I mean really blow him away, a real
feeling of
power and authority it gave me. But in 4th he would slowly begin
catching up...he
never did win though. Geese, that sure was fun, I mean just thinking
about it
gives me a great idea. How about a Vanagon series stock car type race.
Get it
all hyped by liquor and cigarette companies. Grade school kids will be
wearing a
vanagon race series line of cheap, polyester clothing with vanagons and
vanagon
slogans proudly emblazoned all over. Maybe a breakfast cereal some
day...little
vanagon wasserboxer motor shaped crunchies filled with marshmallow
centers that
ooze out when you bite into them. Just like a real wasserleaker.
Anyway back to the heart of the matter...the races. Yeah,
guys will sit around in bars all over the country watching this race
series. Just
think of the sight of 20 vanagons, all pushing at least 80mph or so high
on the
banked walls of race tracks all around this fair land. The drivers
hunched over
the steering wheels, really giving it their all. And the beauty of it
all is it
would be open to everyone. I mean you don't need tons of money or
experience to
participate. Although I suppose it could be argued that driving a
vanagon at 80 is
probably more dangerous than a stock car a 180, but hey, those races
just aren't
fun without some exciting wrecks. Do stock cars ever tip over? Wow,
this could
be the next big thing. Well, whose up for it? I'll see if we can get
some
sponsorship from the big boys. They might just go for it if we call it
"extreme Vanagon racing"
