Subject: 5-cylinder swap update (kits are ready!)
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII
OK, I have been doing alot of work on these kits and getting things organized
and I am now ready to offer 5 kits to do the 5-cylinder conversion with.
These kits are ready to ship out so if you are interested please let me know.
I should be getting some more kits together by the first of the year or maybe
a couple weeks after.
These kits are actually more deluxe than the ones that I talked about just a
couple of weeks ago for $1500.
These kits are more like the Eurospec kits in that they include everything
that you need to a bolt up installation of a 5-cylinder longblock into your
Vanagon.
They include:
wiring harness made to plug into Vanagon harness with ECU
intake setup
complete exhaust system
fuel injection system (CIS-E)
complete coolant system
Engine mounts and engine carrier
bellhousing or adapter plate
flywheel, clutch, pressure plate
etc.
Everything that you need to install a 5-cylinder into any year watercooled
Vanagon (in most states) and limited to Vanagons before '87 in California.
The kits for installing the 5-cylinder in '87 or newer Vanagon in California
are in the works and will be due after the first of the year.
A couple clarifications:
At first I thought I was not going to be able to offer this kit to those of
you that have automatic Vanagons. Well I am please to announce that this kit
is also available for the automatic Vanagons as well for the same price as the
4-speed.
Also I had talked of having to raise the rear deck lid in order to be able to
put in the 5-cylinder motor. After more research I have found that this is
not the case and so no extra deck height is needed for these kits. So you
will have no problems installing this kit in a Westfalia or Weekender Vanagon.
The price:
$2700 for the kit without motor
$4500 for the kit with an overhauled motor (2.1l or 2.3l)
This is a total bolt up kit very similar to the Eurospec kit.
I also have a total of 5 bellhousings to offer up for sale as well in case you
want to go really low budget and make some of the parts for this kit yourself.
The bellhousings are $200 each.
If you are interested in these kits please contact me via pmail or if you have
questions or want clarification.
Just think you could buy the kit for $2700, buy a wrecked Audi for $600, do
the work yourself and for $3300 you have a nice, powerful, reliable Vanagon.
For $600-$700 more you could have someone do the installation work for you.
This is an excellent deal on a nice quality kit and the ultimate solution to
the waterboxer problem that keeps many Vanagon owners from actually enjoying
thier vans to the fullest extent.
Also don't forget that you can sell your waterboxer motors and depending on
thier condition, defray the cost of having the motor installed totally.
I hope I can be of service to you in helping you to get more enjoyment out of
your vans.
Sincerely,
Ken Wilford
