The 4 cyl family of VW motors is just as tough as the Audi 5's. The two engines have their differences but share the same build and design quality. I have a 1.8 4cyl in a rabbit pickup with intercooled turbo. 10 psi boost and ~175hp have not hurt this motor. Truck will not hook up until 3rd gear under full throttle/boost conditions. I am thinking the Audi 5 may be the way to go in the van with its extra mass, but a 2.0 golf motor would still be a huge improvement over the WB. -----Original Message----- From: Nathaniel Merrill <nmerrill@PARAMETRIX.COM> To: vanagon@VANAGON.COM <vanagon@VANAGON.COM> Date: Wednesday, December 09, 1998 7:10 PM Subject: Re: 5-cylinder swap update (kits are ready!)
Ok, now we have thoughts on the Audi 5 (thanks Chris). Who out there has some quality info (and the time) to tell us about the GTI engine which the Eurospec swap uses? |
