Ric; The heater in our 85 (very similar) will "flat-blow-you-out!" in about four minutes. My 86 takes about six minutes to reach operating temperature. After twenty years of owning VWs it was the first one where somebody actually asked me to "turn the heat DOWN!!!" Some models had an intentional restriction inline , see your Bentley for removal.
