Hello Vanagon Listers,

Today I think I have some answers. Answer #1 is 42.

Doors covering campsite hookups: Several vendors have these; I got a replacement from BusBoys for my 87 a few years ago. The door hinge springs are easily replaced with a trip to the local (good, not chain) hardware store. Remove the entire hookup (four phillips screws) cover and take it to your workbench. Note that the "hinge" is actually a small, rigid wire. Using a straightened paperclip, push the wire out and the door will separate from the body of the hookup panel. Take the whole thing to the hardware store and find an appropriate spring. The ones I have found were intended for use in jewelry boxes. It may take some time to find just the right thing.

Westfalia Seats Stick when Rotating: The stiffness of the rotation of the seats is governed by how tight the platform which carries the seat is secured to the bus. Slide the seat all the way forward. Looking under the seat, from the front floor, find the clips inside the tracks which will allow you to slide the seat forward, off of the seat tracks and out of the bus. Release these and remove the seat. You will now have exposed three "nylock" 13mm nuts. If you loosen these, the seat will rotate more easily. They will not come off, since they have the nylon inserts they will stay in whatever position you leave them. If you remove these, the top platform will come off, and you can clean and lubricate the bearing surfaces between the top platform and base. Use grease here, use grease on the rails, do NOT use grease anywhere else or you will have a mess. The whole job takes about 30 minutes. The worst part is finding the locks on the seat rails to get the seat out!!

Questions?? Call or e-mail!
