John - I agree, but I envision an extended Vanagon as having about a 6'
extension in front  of the front wheels, in addition to a 6' extension
to the rear of the rear wheels!  THIS would allow the incorporation of
an Jaguar XKE differential/suspension followed by a decent American
transmission, followed by a decent American engine,
maintaining/expanding wonderful interior room within!
