From reading stuff on the list for the past 8 months, some people have written that you:

1) Jack up both tires on one side of the van and try to rotate the rear tire (i'm not sure if this is to test the viscous coupling or the diff- lock).

2) Jack up both rear tires on a dolly and try VERY SLOWLY (creeper gear) to drive off -- pulling the dolly by the front wheels.

3) Find a gravel hill and put it in granny gear, rev it and let the clutch out hard and watch for the front wheels to spin. This also works well on snow and ice.

4) To check the diff- lock, put the diff lock 'on' and try and drive an arc on pavement - the rear tires will 'skip' as they 'squib' along the pavement - about 10 feet is all that you'll need to do, as this is hard on the diff-lock.

If I missed something, I'm sure I'll hear about it.

Also try these two URLs for Syncro FAQs etc. Good luck. Malcolm S 91 Syncro

For some good Syncro info, you might try www.pipline.com/~tforhan/swfaq.htm and/or www.pipeline.com/~tforhan/swbuying.htm

Good luck, Malcolm S
