If I remember correctly, the Golf type cap used in the Eurospec conversion and the vanagon cap both vent at the same pressure. Thus, if you can fit the overflow tank in behind the new engine (either the I5 or I4), you could use the old vanagon cap on the new exapansion tank, make a new longer tube to your overflow tank and keep the overflow tank. Don't know for sure if the old overflow tank will fit though... Though with the new engine, you should hopefully not be losing coolant or need to be topping up often. A flash light would allow you to check the coolant as the new expansion tank should be able to be seen through the door...
