That way I know that the mail is from the Vanagon list and when I have to delete stuff I don't have to worry about deleting email from a customer or from a Vanagon owner who needs help and has emailed me directly asking for it<<<<

If someone out there is using MS Outlook Express, you can prevent mixing up Vanagon e-mail w/ other mail by using the Inbox Assistant. (found under the Tools pull down menu). This lets you create separate folders to receive email, and you designate what mail goes to each folder based on certain parameters such as the addresses in the To:, From:, Cc:, and even the subject boxes. You can even block the download of mail with certain addresses, subj headings and even reject by size(MBs).

Of course, Outlook Express also allows you to view messages off-line. You can also use it to handle e-mail from several different accounts. I have helped a Chinese visiting scientist in our lab use Outlook Express to retrieve his email from China; so, it's possible it may help download e-mail from many different servers. I am trying to configure mine to also download my Hotmail account.

I hope this helps some of you. It definitely helped me manage my electronic mail; I'm a member on three different listserves (Vanagon, Jeep XJ, and American Society for Microbiology), and I have the mail from each listserve segregated to a separate folder automatically as it downloads. Really helps when you're looking for certain messages from specific lists.

DougJ (I'm not a MS employee, I just like this program)
