Our '81 Westie had AC, and ours took away the entire glovebox. I removed it, since it was broken anyway, and found a used glovebox to install. I then made an aluminum plate that goes in the stock radio location, which holds three gauges. I cut a new hole in the dash to the right of that a few inches and installed an aftermarket stereo there. Everything fits and looks great. If anyone wants a photo, let me know and I'll put one on my web site and post the URL.
