If you have a few extra bucks, try this: bring your van into a car stereo
shop and have some premium 6 1/2" or 6 x 9 speakers installed installed
lower in the door, like right above where the removable door panel ends by
the foot well. No more tin can sound, the increase in bass response makes
all the difference in the world. I'm not talking thumping bass either,
quality sound (although you could fit an 8" sub-woofer if you wanted, then
youd need to keep the 4" up above and replace w/ a high quality component).
I've replaced the
originals before w/ non-flush mount, and it is a little annoying knocking
the window crank, but it was worth it. I really like crusing to music on my
5-6 hr drives to college from home (mostly radio dead zone) so I got a car
stereo system as a graduation (H.S.) present. Consists of :Pioneer
cass.deck, Pioneer 6 disk changer, Blaupunkt 6 1/2"s up front (in parallel
w/ my old Optimus 4"s), and 4 x 10s in the rear (bracket mounted the rears
on the cieling so when I want to party, I open the tail gate and front
doors, swivel the rears so they are pointing backwards, and I have 6
speakers blaring in the same direction). This system makes excellent
(surround) sound and drowns out all other noise, like arguing siblings, wind
noise, engine problems, etc., w/out distorting. The reciever actually cuts
out before the speakers max out. Need an amp. now. any body else out there
w/ a good system for their van worth mentioning? Total for mine was ~$550 -
$625.
