OK, I run a GREAT risk here (disagreeing with the likes of Ken) and I know it has been hashed out before, but experience with MY! carb (91 syncro westy) is that it is of little trouble. I have had it for about a year, and last summer drove 6,000 kms (Nova Scotia to Michigan - return) and the power was fine, the fuel mileage was about the same as reported in the MPG survey (for syncros). I would like to have a nickel for every posting about FI problems (and I'll pay a nickel for each carb problem) and I'll be able to buy a tank of gas!! :-)

If we are going to get into ruining the environment etc. please factor in all of the resources 'consumed' in diagnosing/correcting FI problems.

Someone mentioned high altitude problems, I will be looking for a high altitude jet for my carb as I plan on an 8,000 mile trip this summer, (N.S. to Arizona - return via Colorado)

Emissions tests are a REAL concern, Nova Scotia requires no test. On my trip to the states, maybe I'll try and get my carb emission tested and report the results.

I would NOT suggest that a person take out a workable/fixable FI system, but if it keeps your van on the road, I would not hesitate to switch.

I'm not looking to pick a 'fight' here, just to report on my experience. Anyone wanting more info on my experiences, can search the archives for CARB or mstebbins@hotmail, AND Malcolm.Stebbins@msvu.ca Malcolm S
