My most common problem of this sort has been with the fuel pump control relays. Make sure the fuel pump starts running when the engine is cranking. Have you checked the spark? On my westy I just stick a plug lead near the plug instead of on it, and watch for sparks. I've heard rumors that this can be hard on the electronic ignition models, so maybe wait for some input from other list members on this idea.
