Hey Chris -- yep, you can chip an 86. Scott Mockry is a Quattro lister who is very well thought of for his well performing, yet very affordable chips (like 200ish bucks for 60hp, pretty hard to beat. He also has a web site just _loaded_ with all sorts of Q info. I highly recommend you check it out. He goes into detail about where the hp comes from -- basically increased boost, remapped timing and fuel mixture and also has good info on how to prepare your car for more boost.

Intended Acceleration is another vendor -- that's tuning stud Ned Richie (http://www.intendedacceleration.com/). I've head real good things about his chips, but they do cost more. I think he's about the only way to go for the S-cars (S4, S6). Other vendors -- TAP, Superchips, don't seem to rate as high according to general Q-list consensus.

These mods tend to be very reliable thanks to the bulletproof Audi powertrain. There are plenty of folks running high HP and boost on motors with well over 250k miles. Have fun.

BTW, I think this is fair game for the vanagon list because of all the recent discussion about Audi motors as wasserboxer replacements

Tim Seattle, WA 89 200 Audi tqw 83 Vanagon that has seen better days. hope to someday replace with a chipped Audi MC motor-powered syncro westy (we can all have dreams)
