State licensing bureaus may classify the Vanagon as a station wagan for tax and license purpose. But as far as the feds are concern, it is a truck and needs only comply with safety equipment and emission control requirement for trucks. That's why for example in the last year of production (91?) when some form of passive restrain was required for cars (and station wagens) but not for trucks, the Vanagon had just regular seat belts in front.. not air bags or those sucide belts that wraps around you when you close the door. Vanagons are classified as TRUCKS and so are SUV's. So says EPA Yau-Man Chan 87 GL "Truck" >> then why does it say "'84 VW station wagon" on my title??? chris '84 vanagon |
