Listees and Stuart, > I have an '84 Westy with 196,000 on the clock, and > 105,000 miles since the last head replacement. > (I have learned some tricks for longevity.) > > It is still going strong, but I am on borrowed time! > I have a very good friend who has owned VWs since the 50s. He currently drives an 86 GL with the 2.1 engine. Believe it or not, he has logged 286,000 miles on the original stock engine. He too has learned the longevity tricks and always does the oil changes. The only major replacements were the heads and head gaskets at about 130K. Or is it his trusted mechanic dude in Laguna Beach? What a lucky guy. Should we talk to the Guiness people or does someone out there have a similar longetivity story? Joel Cort 89 Syncro Westy
