<< I am inclined to agree with Chris as far as going with a gas, as opposed to diesel engine...turbo or not. I'm not sure where everyone on the list is(geographically), but around here, the only places to get diesel are truck stops and a few select gas stations near major highways. And frankly, by the time realize that I need gas, I have about 5 minutes before the car conks out due to lack of fuel. 5 cylinder Audi turbo is the way to go, IMHO. No diesels or "bastard" GM or Ford transplants, thank you. >>

i agree...apparently people are totally unaware of this... "yea!!! i want a turbodiesel 5cyl in my van"...ok...2 options. 1) buy a NEW audi turbodiesel (someone said they make them, and gave a price at almost 3 grand) (cost ineffective) 2) locate a '81-'83 5000 turbo diesel. good luck..people arent aware that there werent many of these cars made, and second, most of them have already made into soup cans. i can count the number of 5000TD's ive seen in my life, on one hand.. not many of them made.

the reason the 5cyl diesel was turbo'd, was because the performance was so sucky, that it had to be turbo'd to even match the performance of a non turbo gas motor. if that....ive driven a '83 5000TD it was slow, stinky, noisey and the car didnt even feel like a turbo. not as much power as my '84 turbo, or my '86 TQ...then the '83 TD cracked a head , and my friend put in a non turbo gas motor.

someone please tell my why, if the 5cyl TD was such a good car, was it yanked from the US market in '83??

chris '86 5000 TQ GAS '84 5000 T GAS '84 vanagon hopefully with a '86 up 5cyl T motor...(if the kit price gets cheaper)
