We stayed at a nice state camp ground in Arkansas this summer. Petit Jean State Park. It was nice, had showers, and was pretty cheap. Plus you get to go through a bunch of towns that are population 6 and 10, and then go up to this lookout spot where you can see forever. Don't forget to read the story of Petit Jean. They have some sweet falls near there but we didn't get a chance to check them out. Arkansas just blew me away with how desolate it is. Just didn't seem to be many folks living there. Also check out the cool visitor's center for Oklahoma. They have pictures inside of all the indian tribes that were in the state (a bunch) and these Tee-Pee looking concrete posts out where you can sit and eat your lunch. My wife is part Cherokee so Oklahoma is part of her history. Then why not go to the Oklahoma City Bomb site (ask at the visitor's center and they will trace it on the map for you). This is not advertised about at all, but I think it is something to see, and it will stop you and make you think. It was hard to think of all of those folks dying there. The place is a basically a shrine now. We loved Arizona and New Mexico. We went to the Grand Canyon and it was cool but even cooler were the Anastazi Indian houses nearby. These are the people who later in thier history built the pueblos further west. Here you can walk in and around thier houses. One huge site had twenty houses hooked together! Truely awesome if you like that Indiana Jones stuff. The one regret I have is not getting to see Santa Fe, New Mexico and some of the valleys and sites around it. I still have a free weekend rental there with Roamin' Holidays (remember last year's Vanagon.com writing contest?). Maybe this summer! Have a great trip and drop us a line once and a while to let us know if you are OK. If you want you can call me at (609)-765-0323 and tell me what is up and I'll post it to the list for you. I couldn't get internet access anywhere along 40. Ken Wilford Van-Again John 3:16
