Volks:

This may help with this headlight discussion: the following is a response from Daniel Stern (Stern Lighting:http://lighting.mbz.org/faq/) to my headlight question- - -

Yes, BUT, nobody brings it in. It's available in Europe!

There was someone working to make a bracket to fit a world-standard 200mm wide by 142mm tall (large rectangular) headlamp in place of the awful US aero item, in which case you could use best-in-class Cibie H4 or more common but not as good Hella items.

I have unfortunately lost touch with the gentleman who was working on this and have heard nothing of it for over a year. Are you or is anyone iun your Vanagon group a handy tinkerer? If so, go to the parts store and obtain a large rectangular sealed beam number 5024, 6024, H6024 (get the cheapest one...you won't be using it for lighting, just for test fitting!) Make it fit the front of the car, then rattle my cage for a set of Cibies that will drop right in place. Many VWs have used large rectangular sealed beams (some A1s and A2s, for instance) Go to the wrecking yard and rob brackets from these cars!

(please don't p-mail me seeking a response, I'm going to be away from the List for a couple weeks beginning 1/15/99.)
