Folks - If you try to put a CD/Radio into an 85 Vanagon (I dont know about any other year models), the easiest is a Blaupunkt. It looks like they built the van around the Blaupunkt form factor - even to making a indention in the air duct at the back to allow room for where the connectors plug in. My daugher has taken possession of the van and wanted a working radio. I tried several but most stuck out half an inch. One salesman/installer suggested using a heat gun to melt the ductwork a little and then push in the radio (I dont think so - not in my lifetime). Anyway Best Buy had a helpful salesman that dismantled their demo wall of radios so I could measure what they had and a Blaupunkt Manhattan Radio/CD fit perfectly. $169 on sale for $149. It was an easy install. Frank Herzig '85 Vanagon ( with a daughter firmly implanted in it ) |
