They way to tell where it was assembled is by the VIN. On the A1, A2, and A02 cars, at least, the first charachter represents the following production location: 1 - (Westmoreland, PA until 6/88, then Pueblo, Mexico) 3 - Brazil (Fox and Polo only) W - (Germany)
