Today I found time to change the oil. I put Valvoline 10W-40 and a half a quart of Marvel Mystery oil in. Jim from the OldFartsHome said it worked for hime and still does today in his 84 Westy. Other listmembers also mentioned using this along with others like CD-4 and Wynns.

I started out doing this around 1pm today under a partly cloudy sky with temps in the upper 30's. After I drained the old oil out, the sky got dark and dumped heavy snow with high winds. Oh the joy of being an outdoor mechanic. :-) After about an hour it stopped and I continued with the oil change.

Once done, I started FreeBird up and within a minute the noisy lifters went quiet......shhhhhhhh. I decided to take FreeBird out for a drive, and she ran really good. I found other problems, but that's for another day. I can rejoice in-the-fact that the motor is back! :-) Of course this also means it's time for a compression test.
