Odd...I seem to recall that the convex right side mirror REPLACED the flat glass version sometime in the late '80s AND that the part number remained the SAME! In fact, were the vanagon mailing list archives available from that period, one could find the message I sent to the list wherein I announced this event...

For SF Bay Area Vanagoners, I've several of the right hand convex mirrors in new condition in my garage, as well as, possibly, several of the flat left hand mirrors (one of which might be a righthand flat mirror...I didn't look too closely). I'd be happy to let them go at a minimal price ;-)...of course, if they've suddenly become very rare, perhaps I ought to list them on e-bay.
