I had a similar experience with the '82 diesel Westy I bought last year.
It pumped about four quarts of oil into the coolant in the 120 mile
drive home. The oil cooler was the culprit, so I took it out, plugged
the hoses, and had no more problem. I later swapped the diesel engine
for a gas Jetta one. You most likely have the same problem.
