Apparently Joel's possum was the loser in a high stakes poker game. He was obviously left there by the likes of Brer Rabbit and his cronies, who are well known in the hill country as serious players. They usually take a dim view of anyone who tries to bluff their way into a winning hand. When critters have a spat, it is of no help if your best defense is playin possum. May he rest in peace.

p.s. Under no circumstances ever buy a van from Unca Joel by phone or e-mail; always insist upon a personal inspection. Even pictures and video tape will prove inadequate to guard you from the dreaded curse of the lingering odor. (Why did you think it was such a good deal in the first place?)
