Subject: Hall Sender checking--need help!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Up to my elbows in Das Boot again tonight. The situation as it stands: -------Coil has 12 volts at the terminals with the switch on. -------I have determined that both relays in the box above switch when key is turned. -------I have tried the suggested hot wire jumper from the alternator to the coil. Still wouldn't crank. Also jiggled the starter switch as I turned it. That helped years ago before the starter switch was replaced. -------I have checked for 10 volts at the Hall sender wire connector with the connector unhooked as per the Bentley. It reads about 12 volts.

I am hoping the problem is in the distributor. I am about to do the Hall sender checks this evening and need adivce.

Section 28.43 of the Bentley covers the Hall sender check procedure. It says to ground the coil wire. I assume I can accomplish this with some electric wire tucked up under the coil if I am to leave the coil wire hooked to both the distributor and the coil. Or am I supposed to unhook the coil wire from the distributor and ground that end? Also, the Bentley says to connect voltmeter to center and outer contacts of the reconnected Hall sender connector(if necessary use jumper wire.) Does this mean that I use a jumper wire to connect the outer contacts so that they may be tested for current simultaneously? Or do I test the outer wires seperately?? If I can get some clarification, I hope to do this tonight. Thanks Y'all. You volks have been a big help. Dan Hall '86 Westy Alabama
